Barrage of bullets in downtown sends 3 young men to hospital – CBS Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A barrage of bullets in the Washington Square West neighborhood of Philadelphia has sent three young people to hospital. Police said a 19-year-old man and two 20-year-old men were all hit by gunfire.

The shooting took place shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. Over 60 evidence markers now line 13th Street, between Pine Street and Lombard Street. Several cars were also hit by flying bullets.

“I was lying in my bed and I heard ‘boom, boom, boom’ and it was a lot, and it was loud,” said Cinda Curran, who lives nearby.

Curran was shaken out of bed on Sunday night as gunshots erupted in the city center.

“It’s not normal but it’s very shocking, and just over a week ago there was something blocking the other way,” Curran said. “It is concerning.”

It is not known exactly what led to the shooting, but subsequently police said a man boarded a SEPTA bus and walked through town to 23rd Street and Lombard Street. at the university hospital. He had been shot in the leg.

Police believe two other victims walked four blocks from the scene of the shooting to Jefferson Hospital.

” It’s terrifying. It’s scary, really, ”said resident Michael Monte. “You know, I’m supposed to call this space my home, it’s where I sleep, where my family sleeps. I own a gun myself and in that situation you can’t do nothing but hide and run and, you know, it’s scary. He is.”

Monte’s house was hit twice by gunfire. He was not home at the time, but his mother and sister were outside when the shooting took place. But they were not injured.

“The fact that it happened on this street, in this neighborhood in the heart of the city is incredible,” said Monte.

Police did not say what led to the shooting, but it is possible that there was a party.

There are several pairs of shoes on the street.
