Erie Shores HealthCare is seeking financial support from the Town of Leamington to assist with recruiting efforts.
Leamington City Council opened its meeting with a presentation and a proposal from hospital officials on Tuesday evening.
Kristen Kennedy, CEO of Erie Shores, and CEO of the Erie Shores Health Foundation, Christine Colautti, have asked the board to invest $ 20,000 per year over the next 15 years to help cover recruiting costs.
“We have certainly emphasized the region and the province to be a key player in the delivery of health care,” Kennedy said. “It’s really about recruiting high caliber physicians from our communities.”
Top 10 Hospital in Ontario
Over the past year, Erie Shores HealthCare has experienced a significant increase in both attendance and hospital visits. According to Kennedy, the inpatient occupancy rate has increased by 30% this year, with emergency room visits increasing by 10,000.
“Over the past 18 to 24 months, Erie Shores has grown into one of the top 10 best performing emergency room hospitals across the province,” Kennedy said.
Colautti argued that the support would boost the fundraising campaign.
“Our patients, your constituents, will benefit from shorter wait times, better access to care and will avoid these trips to [Highway] 401 to get the help they need, ”Colautti said.
The Council expressed its overall support for the initiative, but a decision will be taken in the near future.
